Dynamic local student excited about social media in government

OTTAWA, ON –A passionate local student recently attended the Social Media in Government Conference thanks to the philanthropy of an Ottawa based communications agency. Her participation in the conference has made her even more committed to integrating social media in public sector communications.

Realizing the conference, held in Ottawa from March 1 to 4, 2010, was a wonderful opportunity for students, Joseph Thornley, CEO, Thornley Fallis Communications, offered two tickets to students. Kristy Fallon received one of the tickets and has already been able to share tools and information from the event, further inspiring her to look for strategic ways to implement social media in government programs.

“I look forward to a day when traditional and social media efforts are interwoven in communications for the Government of Canada,” says Fallon, “To make this happen, we need to leverage the opportunities we have to show how the Government of Canada can benefit from social media.”

Kristy Fallon is a second-year public relations student at Algonquin College who will graduate in June 2010. A Dean’s Honours List student, Fallon is passionate about social media, consistently looking for new tools and methods to engage audiences.

She is currently finishing an internship within a communications team at Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. Fallon has been researching micro-blogging, video-file sharing, and social networking.

Thornley Fallis Communications is an innovative, full-service public relations, communications and marketing agency. Thornley Fallis helps organizations reach, connect with, and build and sustain positive relationships with their communities through the integrated use of on-line and off-line communications tactics.
